HKG011: Hin

the result of today's grocery run: udon noodles, beef, chinese marinade, sesame seed oil, garlic, and chinese cabbage. it was pretty good!

upside down bug. livie's favorite thing to do at the park is misappropriate the exercise equipment...here, she's using arm exercisers as a parallel bar of sorts. she keeps the locals in stitches with her activities. more than one senior chinese lady has pinched her cheeks and clucked over her. it's pretty cute!

HK taxi. peyton, this is what all of the taxis look like...i have yet to see a taxi that is a different color, make, or model.

quinn and his pursuit of dirt. not that i don't think quinn is interesting, but in this pic, the tree roots are what i find most interesting. there are about a dozen trees like this in the park...one has roots spread around it in about a 10 foot diameter.

interesting songbird. we keep hearing these very enthusiastic birds around us, and today we finally got a glimpse of who was doing all the singing. see him with his white belly sitting in the tree? i have no idea what kind of bird he is, but he is very enthusiastic. i look forward to getting a book on the birds here so i can learn more about this guy and others.

today was pretty uneventful...just playing that the park and running the typical errands. we did get to spend some time petting the golden retriever we met a week ago. the dog's name is buffy after buffy the vampire slayer. we thoroughly enjoyed spending some time petting her soft fur and talking to her caretaker.

in big news, but not necessarily related to hong kong news, quinn has finally begun referring to himself by name. he calls himself hin! it seems that the bug was calling herself dee-dee for several months by this age, and we've been waiting to see when and what quinn would call himself. he's also in this REALLY affectionate phase right now...i get a lot of unsolicited hugs and kisses as do sissy and daddy. you can't beat that!

  3. ha! i am not sure i could call this a recipe, but here goes:

1/2 pound sliced beef marinated for 8 hours in chinese marinade...i can't read the ingredients, but the marinade tastes like soy sauce, vinegar, and chinese five spice.
sautee the garlic and beef in a couple table spoons of sesame oil.
shred some of the cabbage and throw that into the pot with the beef and garlic. add soba noodles and any leftover marinade with about a half cup of water, and cook over low for about 7 minutes stirring occasionally.
    ENJOY!
